Alexandria Va/ Washington DC Gregorys
Posted By  Debra Rheault  on 8/9/2009 8:27:40 PM.

I am looking for a great gradfather who went by the name of Fred or Frederick Gregory who lived on D St in DC in the 1900 census. At that time he was married to Margaret Crigler(Quigley?) of Page County Virginia.  Together they had my grandmother "Jenny".  Margaret died in 1903 in Providence Hospital in DC. Fred died 1907 in Temperance Alley also in DC. His body was taken by boat to be burried in Alexandria. VA. Before Fred died, he placed "Jenny" in what we believe to be the "Washington City Children's Asylum" in DC.  When Jenny was about 16 she left DC and moved to Michigan (Grand Rapids which is in Kent County) where she met my grandfather who was in a veterans hospital. My family is wanting to find the Gregory connection. Jenny's oldest daughter Virginia is quickly approaching 90.  Most of Jenny's children are now dead. However, my dad and a couple of his brothers and sisters are still living.  It is important to my family to learn about our roots. I hope someone is able to help.

Posted By  John James Conrad Gregory  on 10/18/2008 1:12:35 PM.

I was born in 1932. My Mothers maiden name was Mary McLaclan Drysdale and my Fathers, Hubert Conrad Gregory. My Father was born in the Soundwell area of south Gloucestershire and my Mother in Glasgow.
My Grandfather was a James Gregory whi was born in Everton in 1968 to a John Gregory and a Sarah nee' Newman. Sarah was born in the Bitton area of South Gloucestershire where most of the immediate family resided. John was born in Bitton in 1843 to A James Gregory and a Mary Naish. It is believed that both were born in Poulton, Somerset around 1808. James was a renowned Engineer in the Kingswood area of Bristol, manufacturing horizontal steam pumping engines and winding gear for the local coal mines.
I would like to find out why my Great Grandfather John and his wife Sarah moved to Everton for a short while and his death, of which I have no knowledge. He appears to have gone missing from the family home around 1883. If possible I would like to contact any living relatives of either James or John and possibly confirm the link with Poulton.
For information I am a professionally qualified structural design engineer.

Good morning,

I am in need of information concerning Samuel Gregory, specifically his wife.  I have a hand written letter from Martha Franchere to E. L. Parrish (27 Mar 1900)stating “My fathers people lived in Parma, Conroe Co., N.Y.  Ontario and Monroe join, and my mother’s mother had a sister living in Parma she husband was Uncle Samuel Greggory.  I remember so well staying over night at Aunt Tyler Greggory’s home with my father and mother.  I was quite young, but I remember well how these old people looked.”  Do you have any knowledge of this Gregory connection and if so the name of Samuel’s wife’s name (maiden name Tyler).  The Gregory family lived in Parma, Conroe Co., NY (early 1800's - late 1800's).

Thank you for any information that you might be able to share.

Best wishes,

Tom Parrish

Gregory of Roddington Shropshire UK
Posted By  Maree Di Lodovico  on 7/22/2008 10:28:48 PM.

My Gregory ancestors are from Roddington Shropshire UK. Thomas Gregory born about 1760 married Mary Jones at High Ercall in 1788.Children included George Benjamin (1790), John (1792) Rachel  Judith  Emma  Ann and others.
George Benjamin Gregory moved to London around 1810 and became a pastrycook/confectioner living in the St.Pancras area. By 1830 he was living in Bloomsbury at Everett St  Brunswick Square,LOndon, where he was a confectioner married to Mary and with 2 children - Edmund Howard born 1825,&  Ellen born 1828. Wife Mary died in 1850 and in 1852 he married Elizabeth Beecham (no issue) George Benjamin died in Kensington London in 1857.  His son Edmund Howard Gregory  ,also a confectioner,  and wife Emma (nee Brooks) emmigrated to Australia in 1852 with 3 of their eventual 13 children. Their son Charles Gregory returned to Uk in 1873 and married his first cousin Annie Marshall (daughter of Ellen) and became a successful water colour artist. Of all the  other   12 Gregory children in Australia only two sons lived to adulthood and married - John William Gregory (1860-1920) being my Great Grandfather. The other son - George Benjamin Gregory married a Constance and had at least 5 0r 6 children but their marriage failed and after 1885  nothing is known of the children and their descendents.
So I am seeking any descendents of that family in Australia from 1880s onwards   plus any details about the Roddington Shropshire  Gregory ancestry.  Thanks to anyone who can help .

Here is the thing.  I can't find anything on my grandmothers family other than a tale tale that was passed from one generation to the next.  I can't seem to find anything on here or her family!  But the story was that my Great Great Grandfather Augustus Gregory was Heir to the Throne.  Which one I'm not sure.  But that to save the blood line and from Execution the child Gregory was sent to the new world.  I can only trace them to Branchville, VA  Even if it isn't a true story it would be nice to know my roots.  Yet the story that was told to me there was record of this event yet lost in the fire of Richmond, VA.  Since there were two fires in Richmond and a few floods not really sure which era to try and look.  But to my knowledge that was how the story was told.  If anyone can help find the missing key yet I'm sure we all are trying would be great.

Thanks.

I'm searching for Edward Gregory born about 1756? He and his four sons came to Wayne co, Ky about 1803/04 from Washington co. Va. There was no record of his wife. He was in Kentucky census in 1810. But no records of him before or after. And no records of him anywhere else. Edwards sons are, Mordecai, Hiram, Fleming and Meshech. All sons were born in Virginia.

Ezra Gregory and family
Posted By  D. Allen  on 6/16/2007 3:35:25 PM.

I am searching for info on Ezra Gregory and his wife Rebecca "Betsey" Hopkins.  Ezra was born ca. 1753 probably in NY and died 1823 in Hapersfield, Astabula Co., OH.  Ezra's father was probably Josiah Gregory.  I don't know his mother's name but I'd love to find out.  Ezra and Josiah served in the 7th regiment of the Dutchess Co. Militia during the Rev. War.  Ezra and Rebecca married ca. 1774.  Their children were Anna (my line), Eleanor, Eliza, Thatcher, Betsey, Eli, Jonathan, Daniel, and Ezra Jr.  Sometime after the Rev. War and before 1798, Ezra and Rebecca moved to Delaware Co., NY.  In 1798, they went west with Alexander Harper's party to establish Harpersfield, Ashtabula Co., OH out of the wilderness.
Any additional info on this family would be appreciated.

Jesse Gregory
Posted By  Janet Gregory Martinelli  on 6/4/2007 3:37:12 PM.

I've been researching my grandfather Gregory's side of the family for many years and have gotten as far as his Great Great Grandfather Jesse Gregory, b. 1777 in Wilton Fairfield CT, married to Jane or Jennie Hurlbutt. Does anyone have any information on this branch? I would really like to know from where Jesse's ancestors immigrated.

Their son is Edwin Patchen Gregory, b. 30 Nov 1807 in CT (wife is unknown). Next in my line is Edward Patchen Gregory, b. 10 Jan 1838 in NY state; married Sarah ? then Lucy Ann Repard. Edward and Lucy's first child is my grandather - Raymond John Gregory, born 22 March 1889 in PA.

Would really love to hear from anyone who can help me out with additional information about my Gregory family.

just wanted to let you know that the information that you have for John Elwood Glidden is incorrect.  Olga and daughter Phyllis are his brother Pete's family who lived for some time in Alaska and ran a hunting?/fishing? lodge.  I know this as John Elwood is my Grandfather, my mother Nora's father.  She was his only child:  Nora Ellen Glidden.  Her mother left and returned to Calgary, Alberta Canada taking her daughter with her.  This can be confirmed by Phoebe's daughter Rita who still resides in Kalispell and whom my Grandfather lived with.

Gregory fo Shropshire UK
Posted By  Yvonne Creasy  on 2/27/2005 1:09:43 PM.

I see this site uses the Gregory of Rodington, Shropshire, Uk coat of arms.  Can anyone prove that their lines were definitely from the Shropshire family?  I am trying to trace the parents of John Gregory of Twemlows Hall Farm, Ash Parva, Whitchurch, Shropshire, died Dec. 1729/30. He had 3 sons John, Humphrey & William and daughters Jane, Margaret, Mary and Deborah (no baptisms) and says he was an "old man" in his will. However he married as a bachelor in 1707 to Elizabeth Cowley at St Chad Shrewsbury and had the above children. He appears in Shropshire about 1701 on the Earl of Shewsbury estate and may have returned from USA. Anyone recognise him?

Great-Grandparents Gregory
Posted By  Sharon Hite  on 1/30/2005 1:03:12 AM.

I am looking for information on my Great-Grandparents: the Gregorys that lived in Oklahoma. Both were full-blooded Cherokees. Great-grandmother Gregory (her name may have been Polly Ann)lived in Oklahoma in the 1840's until the early 1900's, when she moved with my Grandmother, Stacey Elizabeth Gregory, to the Lebanon, Missouri, area where she remarried, to a man named George Allen (we think). Stacey Elizabeth married Elmer Eugene Bench in Missouri, and they later moved to Arkansas.

John W. Gregory
Posted By  Lloyd Gregory  on 8/30/2004 9:10:38 AM.

I've been able to track down some census information for John Gregory and have concluded that his middle initial was DEFINITELY W and not H.

If you look at the census forms that I uploaded you will see that the 1870 Iowa census lists both He and Mathilda and the children they had at that time.  (Also note that it states that some of the children were born in Michigan.)

The 1880 Census only shows John and Henry living in Cass County.  The census was obviously taken after Mathilda passed away and the younger children were adopted by other relatives.  What's odd here is that William isn't listed as living with John and Henry.

Finally in what may be our only lead in learning who John W. Gregory's father was, I've found one entry in the 1830 census of Rutland County Vermont that has one male child under the age of 5.  At this time John W. would have been three years old and we know that he was born around the town of Brandon, Vermont, just ten miles away from Orwell where this entry was credited to.  The name I am now researching is Ithamar Gregory so if any of you genealogy fans with some time on your hands can research him that would be great.

I'm posting the image scanned from the 1830 census that shows Ithamar.  Unfortunately at the time they didn't list the other names in the household so we'll have to dig deeper to find out if he is our missing link.

Lloyd
